FYI covers on-campus announcements and advance notice of events.

Submissions from faculty and staff are invited. All submissions must include complete
pertinent information, including a phone number to call for more information. Items may be edited for length. Submit typewritten information to Journal, M/S TA49, fax it to ext. 8-2436,
or e-mail the material to journal. The deadline for the next issue is August 30 at 5 p.m.


Student Jobs
Fresno State departments can list student assistant job listings free on www.monstertrak.com, and will have access to students viewing MonsterTRAK jobs daily. Instructions are available from Career Services by calling ext. 8-2381, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Career Day
Career Services is sponsoring Career Day on Wednesday, Oct. 3, on the balcony of the University Student Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from approximately 85 organizations from business, industry and government will be available to discuss general career information.

Job Fair
A Holiday Job Fair will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of Carl's Jr. in the Free Speech Area. Sponsored by Career Services, the fair will host employers from local retail stores who will be available to discuss part-time job opportunities and accept applications for the upcoming holiday season.

Recruiting Fair
The colleges of Engineering and Computer Science and Science and Mathematics, along with Career Services, are co-sponsoring a Science and Engineering Recruiting Fair in the Satellite Student Union Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Employers will be available to discuss career information and interview students for paid internships and career opportunities.

Bike Auction
Services for Students with Disabilities will hold its annual auction for unclaimed bicycles and sale of lost and found items from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Free Speech Area Wednesday, Sept. 5. A great selection of nearly new bicycles, as well as "classics" and parts, will be available. For more information, please call ext. 8-2811.

McClatchy Lecture in Classics
Dr. Paul Cartledge, professor of Greek history at Cambridge University in England, will be the guest speaker at the fourth annual McClatchy Lecture in Classics on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m., in the Upstairs Cafeteria, Room 200. Cartledge is an expert in ancient Sparta and ancient slavery. The lecture series started with gift from James McClatchy in honor of his mother, Phebe Conley, to establish an annual lecture in ancient history. In addition to the lecture, on Friday Cartledge will meet with students interested in graduate work in ancient history.

Red Carpet
The Craig School of Business will play host at its Tenth Anniversary Gala, "Rolling Out the Red Carpet," Friday, Sept. 28 beginning at 6 p.m. The event marks the 10th anniversary of the endowment by Sid and Jenny Craig, which created the Craig School of Business.

Lean Thinking
The Business Associates of the Craig School of Business will sponsor a "Lean Thinking Seminar" by Tim Bornermann of Pathways Consulting Friday, Sept. 14, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The seminar will be at the University Business Center

Barbecue
The 24th Annual Ag boosters barbecue will be Sunday, Sept. 29, at Coombs Riverbend Ranch in Madera. Grounds open at 4 p.m. with dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Music will be provided from 4 to 9 p.m. Cost is $30 per person, and there will be a drawing for a Fantasy Vacation. Wine Tasting
Fourth annual Fresno-Madera Alumni and Friends Wine Tasting Social will be Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Smittcamp Alumni House. Cost is $20 per person. Contact Ag One at ext. 8-4266 for tickets or information. The Alumni and Friends of the Craig School of Business will host a wine tasting Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Downing Planetarium.

Open House
The Annual Faculty and Staff Open House hosted by President John D. Welty and Dr. Sharon Brown-Welty will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will be at University House, 4411 N. Van Ness Boulevard. For information, call Rosie Gutierrez, Coordinator of Events, at
