
Provost announces tenure, promotions
Eighteen faculty members at Fresno State have been reappointed
with tenure and/or promotion, Provost J. Michael Ortiz announced.
"The individuals tenured and promoted reflect the talent,
energy and diversity of a faculty that is committed to excellence,"
said Ortiz. "In particular, the award of tenure certifies
that the individual is committed to excellence in teaching, research
and service. Tenure is necessary for the protection of academic
freedom so that the faculty member can pursue the truth, free
from fear of intimidation."
Ortiz announced the following, effective Aug. 21:
- Reappointment with tenure and promotion to professor: Dr.
George DeGraffenreid (Music); and Dr. Isabel Kaprielian (Modern
Armenian and Immigration History).
- Tenured faculty promoted to professor:
Dr. Joan Henderson Sparks (Curriculum, Teaching and Educational
Technology);
Dr. Robert Maldonado (Philosophy);
Dr. Gerado Munoz (Physics); and Dr. Jean Ritter (Psychology).
- Tenured library faculty promoted to librarian: Ross LaBaugh
(Bibliographic Instruction, Reference Department); and Michael
Tillman (Curriculum/Juvenile Library.)
- Reappointment with tenure and promotion to associate professor:
Dr. Jean Behrend (Curriculum, Teaching and Educational Technology);
Dr. Alejandro Calderon-Urrea (Biology); Dr. Dennis Ferris (Food
Science and Nutrition); Dr. Scott Houser (Economics); Dr. Donald
Pogoloff (Health Science); and Dr. Paul Price (Psychology).
- Library faculty reappointed with tenure and promoted to associate
librarian: Tammy Lau, head of Sanoian Special Collections.
- Faculty reappointed with tenure:
Dr. Kenneth Aldrich (Kinesiology); Dr. Jon Robison (Animal Science);
and Dr. Mark Somma, (Political Science).
