FYI covers on-campus announcements and advance notice of events.

Submissions from faculty and staff are invited. All submissions must include complete
pertinent information, including a phone number to call for more information. Items may be edited for length. Submit typewritten information to Journal, M/S TA49, fax it to ext. 8-2436,
or e-mail the material to journal. The deadline for the next issue is August 30 at 5 p.m.


CSEA Meeting
Chapter 309 meets at noon, Sept. 11 at UC 202. Food and refreshments are provided.

Coffee Hours
The International Coffee Hours series will begin with its first presentation Tuesday,
Sept. 11, with "Away from Home," by Prasum Prakash, an undergraduate student in computer engineering, and Prashnitha Prakash, an undergraduate psychology major. They will speak on how it feels to be an expatriate. On Sept. 18, Lucia Hammar, coordinator of the Study Abroad and Exchange Programs, will present "Study Abroad," which will inform the audience about the study abroad opportunities available to students. Coffee Hours are every Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Bistro, (formerly the University Restaurant).

Business Seminar
The Business Associates of the Craig School of Business will sponsor a "Lean Thinking Seminar" by Tim Bornermann of Pathways Consulting Friday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The seminar will be at the University Business Center.

The Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts will present Eric Brelsford, pianist, in the opening recital of the 2001-2002 season Friday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. Prize-winner at the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition and the International Videotape Competition of the Pinault Musical Society in New York, the 17-year-old Brelsford is well on his way to a major performing career. He will perform works by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Gould at the Concert Hall. Tickets are $12.50 general admission, $7 for seniors and $5 for students. For more information, call ext. 8-2337.

Digital Fair
Digital Campus Fair will be Sept. 17 and 18 at the University Business Center, Alice Peters Auditorium. The keynote speaker on Monday will be Ieuan G. Mahony of Holland and Knight LLP. His topic will be "Online Course Development and the Copyright Law." The keynote speech will begin at 9:45 a.m. after opening remarks by Dr. J. Michael Ortiz, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. Other activities throughout the day will include a Faculty Showcase from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. (presentations every 20 minutes); a Vendor Expo featuring Blackboard, XanEdu, Prentice Hall and Kangaroo.net from noon to 2 p.m. For more information, call ext. 8-6892.

Fall Coffee
Faculty wives and wives of administrators are cordially invited to the Fresno State Faculty Wives Fall Coffee and Program at the home of President John D. Welty and Dr. Sharon Brown-Welty on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9:30 a.m. Debbie Adishian-Astone, executive director of Auxiliary Services, will be the speaker. Please join us. Red Carpet Gala
The Craig School of Business will host at its Tenth Anniversary Gala, "Rolling Out the Red Carpet," Friday, Sept. 28 beginning at 6 p.m. The event marks the 10th anniversary of the gift by Sid and Jenny Craig, which endowed the Craig School of Business.

Career Day
Career Services is sponsoring Career Day on Wednesday, Oct. 3, on the balcony of the University Student Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from approximately 85 organizations from business, industry and government will be available to discuss general career information.

Wine Tastings
Fourth annual Fresno-Madera Alumni and Friends Wine tasting Social will be Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Smittcamp Alumni House. Cost is $20 per person. Contact Ag One at ext. 8-4266 for tickets or information. The Alumni & Friends of the Craig School of Business will host a wine tasting Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Downing Planetarium.

Student Readings
On Friday, Oct. 5, the MFA Program in Creative Writing will hold its annual New Student Reading and Awards Ceremony to welcome and introduce our newest poets and fiction writers. Each will read an excerpt from his or her work, and several awards will be presented, including the Saroyan Scholarship in Fiction Writing, the Levine Scholarship in Poetry writing, and the Andres Montoya Creative Writing Scholarship. Everyone is welcome. A wine and cheese reception will follow. The free event will be held in the Alice Peters Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Tip Off BBQ
The Tip Off Club will be having its "Meet the Team" barbecue for the women's basketball team Sunday, Oct. 7, at O'Neill Park. The 2 p.m. event will feature barbecued chicken. Tickets are $8. For more information, call ext. 8-2236.

Job Fair
A Holiday Job Fair will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of Carl's Jr. in the Free Speech Area. Sponsored by Career Services, the fair will host employers from local retail stores who will be available to discuss part-time job opportunities and accept applications for the upcoming holiday season.

Recruiting Fair
The colleges of Engineering and Computer Science and Science and Mathematics, along with Career Services, are co-sponsoring a Science and Engineering Recruiting Fair in the Satellite Student Union Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Employers will be available to discuss career information and interview students for paid internships and career opportunities.
