Crowd throngs Graham Crusade events

Dr. John D. Welty welcomed the Rev. Billy Graham to Fresno State and gave him a Bulldog sweatshirt prior to the evangelist's Oct. 11-14 crusade in Bulldog Stadium. With them is Elmer "Bud" Richter, local crusade chairman and a longtime friend and supporter of Fresno State.

More than 201,000 people attended the Crusade events, which included four evening programs and a morning program for children. The Saturday night Concert for the NeXt Generation drew a crowd of 62,000 (47,000 in Bulldog Stadium and 15,000 in Beiden Field).

Hundreds of Fresno State faculty, staff and students were crusade volunteers. Campus police and facilities managers said there were few problems in hosting the event.
