"Take Back the Night," a march and candlelight vigil designed to raise the awareness on campus concerning violence against women, will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Peace Garden.
Speakers will be Dr. Judy Sakaki, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students; Det. Brenda Troubaugh of the Fresno Police Department; Odette Larson, an incest survivor and author of "Flying Sparks: Growing Up On the Edge of Las Vegas;" and Aniesha Saklikar, President of the Women's Alliance.
After the speeches, participants will march from the Peace Garden and around the campus, ending at the University Student Union. After the march, there will be an open microphone for participants to share their experiences.
The event is being organized by the Women's Alliance, and co-sponsored by the Women's Resource Center, the Women's Studies Program, Lambda Alpha Epsilon, African American Student Social Work Association, Lambda Theta Nu and the Mexican American Correctional Association.
Also, from 6 - 9 p.m., University Police Department representatives will be in front of the Women's Resource Center to hand out whistles for use in self-defense.
