Plan for Excellence II:
2001-2006

On Sept. 24, 2001, the university's Academic Senate endorsed the university's new strategic plan. The Senate's endorsement included a number of recommendations that were reviewed by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee on Oct. 4 and 18.

After this review, the Steering Committee revised the Plan for Excellence II to reflect the major concerns identified in the Senate's recommendations. On Oct. 18, President John D. Welty approved the changes to the new strategic plan. With the president's approval and the Senate's endorsement, the university community is now moving forward with implementation of the new plan.

The plan is now available online at www.csufresno.edu/plan. Printed copies of the plan are also available in the Office of the President.

The university's new strategic plan was developed during the 2000-2001 academic year. In the spring of 2001, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee established 10 task forces, and the president appointed 20 task force co-chairs to lead a review of the university's progress in each of these 10 key areas. Approximately 240 faculty, staff and administrators participated and worked with task force co-chairs to identify new goals and priorities for the university. The major goals identified by the 10 task forces have been incorporated into the Plan for Excellence II and will serve to guide the university's growth and development over the next five years.

To move forward with the implementation of the plan, the president has requested that the provost, vice presidents and director of athletics identify goals for their divisions to be implemented during the 2001-2002 academic year. These goals will be reviewed by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee on Nov. 15. Progress reports will be prepared at the end of the academic year and reviewed by the Steering Committee at that time. All progress reports and other information related to the university's strategic planning process will be posted online at www.csufresno.edu/plan and are available for review in the Office of the President.

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee was established in 1996 to monitor the university's strategic planning process and to ensure that we maintain our momentum as we implement our strategic goals. The steering committee meets several times a year to monitor and update the plan. This year the steering committee will also work closely with the WASC Self-Study Steering Committee, whose members are preparing for the university's reaccreditation review by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Dr. John Shields is serving as chair of the university's WASC committee.
