Honors

Dickran Kouymjian (Armenian Studies) lectured on "The Iconography of the Alexander Epic in Medieval Armenian Manuscripts" at the Museum of Byzantine Culture at the Michael S. Dukakis Lecture series in Thessaloniki, Greece, in April. The lecture was part of Fresno State's recent international partnership with The American College of Thessaloniki.

Doug Singleton (Physics) has been awarded a COBASE (Collaboration in Basic Science and Engineering) grant from the National Research Council. This grant will fund a two-month research visit by Dr. Merab Gogberashvili of the Andronikashvili Insititute of Physics, who has recently received attention for his work on the higher dimensional membrane model of the universe.

P. J. Mistry (Linguistics) was presented on March 14 with a festschrift, "Perspectives in Linguistics: Papers in Honor of P. J. Mistry" edited by Ritva Laury, Shigeko Okamoto, Gerald McMenamin, Vida Samiian (all from Linguistics) and K. V. Subbarao (University of Delhi), published by Indian Institute of Language Studies, New Delhi. A festschrift is a miscellaneous volume of writings from several hands for a celebration.

 

Publications

Bert Mason (Agricultural Economics) is co-author with Philip L. Martin (UC Davis) of the article "Mandatory Mediation Changes Rules for Negotiating Farm Labor Contracts" in California Agriculture magazine, January-March 2003, pp. 13-17.

Doug Singleton (Physics) with Atsushi Yoshida of Sweet Briar College and St. Anne's Belfield School, published the article "A Schwarzschilds-like model for baryons" in Foundations of Physics Letters Vol. 15, pg. 263 (2002).

Timothy M. Stearns (Entrepreneurial Studies) with Kathleen Allen of the University of Southern California, had a chapter entitled "High Tech Entrepreneurs: Who Are They and How Have They Done One Year Later?" published in Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research 2002, P&R Publications.
