New general manager joins Save Mart Center

Stephen H. Tadlock has been named general manager of the Save Mart Center at Fresno State by SMG, the company that will manage the center.

Tadlock, who previously was general manager of SMG-managed CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, La., has relocated to Fresno and is working here full time.

Construction of the Save Mart Center at the corner of Shaw and Chestnut avenues is on schedule to meet its November opening date. Clark Construction is the builder.

The California State University, Fresno Association last December selected SMG, one of the nation's largest private facility management companies, to manage, operate and promote the Save Mart Center.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, SMG is the leading private facility management company. With 158 venues, in 33 States, Puerto Rico, Canada and Europe, SMG controls over 1.4 million entertainment seats worldwide, and over 9 million square feet of exhibit space.

Tadlock will assist the Association with various pre-opening activities and will hire the employees and the event personnel needed to operate the Save Mart Center. Tadlock and SMG also will supervise the food service concessionaire, be responsible for the acquisition of equipment and supplies, as well as building maintenance and other similar services.

SMG will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, booking of all events and maintaining the master event schedule, in accordance with Association and university policies.

Tadlock holds a bachelor's degree in sports administration from St. Thomas University in Miami and attended the School for Public Assembly Facility Management.

He has worked in arena management positions since 1988, at the Orange Bowl Stadium, the Miami Arena and The Pyramid in Memphis. He joined the CenturyTel Center as general manager in 1999, and worked as on-site project administrator from its inception. He managed a staff of 33 full-time and 400 part-time employees.
