Planetarium names marketing director

The Downing Planetarium has its first marketing director and is offering its "starry-eyed" friends three opportunities to support the work of the Central Valley's only planetarium.

William J. "Joe" Conway III will handle marketing for the 74-seat planetarium. Conway, who grew up in Fresno, previously owned and operated Aviation Video Network, specializing in air show video production and marketing. He also was service director for United Airlines in Las Vegas, marketing director for Aviation Illustrated magazine and marketing director for International Cash Co.

In conjunction with plans for the adjacent Downing Museum, to be built starting next spring, Conway said three fund-raising sponsorships are available:

  1. Ten granite benches. They will be placed in the courtyard between the two buildings. The sponsorship per bench is $2,500. A bench may be personalized with a message of two lines, with up to 50 characters per line.
  2. Forty seats in the planetarium's Star Theater. Each seat has a brass nameplate permanently affixed and can be personalized with a lifetime sponsorship of $1,000.
  3. A total of 1,260 engraved granite bricks. The bricks will form a walkway in the courtyard between the planetarium and the museum. The bricks are $100 each and may be personalized with up to three lines and 16 characters per line.

For more information on the sponsorships, call Conway at (559) 289-0981.
