The first two wines of the Fresno State's 2002 vintage were introduced Nov. 21 at Le Vin Nouveau a new special event that honors a French tradition of celebrating the harvest on the third Thursday in November.

Fresno State's viticulture and enology program released the 2002 California Zinfandel Nouveau and the 2002 California Muscat Nouveau at the event, co-sponsored by the Enology Society and Fresno State Vineyards.

"According to French tradition, the third Thursday of each November is the day to celebrate the first release of the year's grape harvest," said Ken Fugelsang, Fresno State winemaster.

He said the two new wines are made in the classic Nouveau style of whole berry fermentation and are "perfect" for upcoming holiday festivities.
