noted on open enrollment deadline
Please note the following correction in the President's Fall Newsletter,
Page 18, under Benefits Fair: The university's open enrollment period
for medical, dental, flexcash, dependent care and health care reimbursement
will be in effect during the month of October (not September) for the
2004 contract year. For more, see Human

Pint-for-Pint blood drive
The first Fresno State Blood Drive of the 2003-04 year will be held Sept. 10
and 11. Donors are invited to give the "gift of life" each day
from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Student Union, West Lobby. more
Brown Bag Book Club resumes Sept. 16
In celebration of its new recommended reading list, the Madden Library is sponsoring
University Brown Bag Book Club discussions. Professors from various disciplines
take turns facilitating discussion. Students, faculty, staff and Friends
of the Madden Library are invited to bring their lunches and participate.

Friends of Library dinner Sept. 12
Jean Ray Laury, noted fiber artist and author, will show her work and
share her research into quilting as an art form at the Friends of the
Madden Library annual dinner program on Friday, Sept. 12 in the Smittcamp

Rotary short-term grants available
for faculty
The Rotary Foundation and District 5230, which consists of Fresno, Tulare,
Kings and Monterey County, are sponsoring Rotary Grants for University
Teachers. more
Public contract code restrictions
enacted
Effective July 1, 2003, Senate Bill 1467 (authored by Senator Bowen)
amends California law making applicable to the California State University
certain civil service conflict of interest provisions located in the
Public Contract Code. Although these restrictions have long been applicable
to state civil service employees, they have not until this year been
applicable to the CSU. more
Alumni Association elects
officers
Kenneth Campbell of Fresno has been re-elected president of the Executive
Board of the Fresno State Alumni Association for the 2003-04 fiscal
year. It is the second term as president for Campbell, administrator
of court schools for the Fresno County Office of Education. more

begun
The American University in Beirut, in partnership with the Council for International
Exchange of Scholars, announces a new program, “Understanding Contemporary
Islam.” more
Ag Boosters Barbecue is Sept. 7
The Ag One Foundation’s Ag Boosters will hold their 26th annual Barbecue
on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Dennes Coombs Riverbend Ranch in Madera. The grounds
will open at 4 p.m., with dinner served from 5:30-6:30p.m. more

Faculty lead travel programs
The International Programs Office offers many opportunities for students to travel
abroad and learn about another culture while earning academic credit. Among
the options for students are short-term travel study programs organized by
campus faculty. These programs, while primarily designed for students, also
attract members of the community who appreciate the academic focus. more
