Rotary short-term grants available for faculty

The Rotary Foundation and District 5230, which consists of Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Monterey County, are sponsoring Rotary Grants for University Teachers.

The primary purpose of this grant program is to further international understanding and development while strengthening higher education in low-income countries. Grant recipients teach at universities and colleges in developing countries and share their knowledge and expertise. The fields taught should have practical use in the country where current positions are open. The list of countries can be found by going to the following Web site: www.rotary.org/foundation/educational/un_teach/lowincome/index.html.

Faculty who may have a research sabbatical leave, faculty of all ranks, including those who are retired (full or partially or who are working with other international grants) might consider this opportunity in making a difference in many of these countries. For specific criteria go to: www.rotary.org/foundation/educational/un_teach/rotarian/candidate/criteria.html

There are two types of grants for university teachers: $12,500 for three to five months of teaching service and $22,500 for six to 10 months of teaching service. Grant funds may be used for round trip transportation, living expenses, teaching and research costs, miscellaneous ambassadorial expenses.

District 5230 is committed to support one or two Fresno State faculty for 2004-2005 academic year or 2005-06. Applications are available in the International Program office, Room 111 of the Family Food Science Building. For information call 8-6452.

Deadlines for applications to be submitted to the International Program office are:
