Renowned Journalist Tommy Miller to Join Fresno State Faculty as Tatarian Chair

Tommy Miller.Tommy Miller, managing editor of the Houston Chronicle, has been named the new Roger Tatarian Chair in Journalism and joins the Mass Communication and Journalism faculty this fall.

Miller, 58, replaces the former Tatarian Chair, Professor Jim Flanery, who retired last spring.

“We are extremely pleased and excited to have someone of Tommy’s stature join us,” said Don Priest, department chair. “He’ll be a great asset to the university. Our students will benefit immensely from his professional experience.”

Miller’s professional career spans 30 years from reporter to editor in major newspapers and wire services across the country -- including a stint as a journalism professor at the University of Mississippi and the distinction of being named one of 15 outstanding journalism professors in the country by the Poynter Institute of Journalism.

More on Miller.
