Publications Sari H. Dworkin’s (Counseling, Special Education and Rehabilitation) article “Biracial, bicultural, bisexual: Bisexuality and multiple identities,” appeared in Journal of Bisexuality, 2(4) 93-107 in June 2003. Betty Garcia (Social Work Education) with P. Manoleas published “Clinical algorithms as a tool for psychotherapy with Latino clients” in American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 73(2). 154-166, 2003. Rose Marie Kuhn’s (Foreign Languages and Literatures) gave a one-day refereed workshop, "Impressions of French-Speaking Sub-Saharan Africa: A Cultural Introduction to Sénégal and Côte d'Ivoire," at the California Language Teachers Association in Sacramento, April 18-21, 2003. She was selected nationally as one of 12 faculty to participate to the "Islam in West Africa" Seminar in Dakar, Senegal, sponsored by the West African Research Association. more Craig Bernthal (English) had two books published over the summer: “Perfection in Bad Axe,” a short story collection from University of Missouri Press, and “The Trial of Man: Christianity and Judgment in the World of Shakespeare” from Interscholastic Institute Press. He will have a book signing at Fig Garden Books on Sept. 6, 1 to 3 p.m. more Don Blakeley (Philosophy) published “Listening to the Animals: The Confucian View of Animal Welfare,” in the Journal of Chinese Philosophy, 30:2 (June, 2003), 137-157. more Sasan Fayazmanesh (Economics) article “On Veblen’s Coining of the Term ‘Neoclassical’” was reprinted in The Legacy of Thorstein Veblen, edited by Rick Tilman, London: Edward Elgar, 2003. more |
Honors President John Welty will be presented the Fresno Business Council’s Excellence in Public Service Award, on Sept. 10 at the 2003 Rose Ann Vuich Ethical Leadership Awards Luncheon. The Frye Institute is an intensive, two-week, residential program held in early June at Emory University for faculty, librarians and university technology professionals. Dickran Kouymjian Kathleen Curtis (director, Central California Center for Health and Human Services) was the Honorary Chair for the 5th annual Race for the Cure heldon campus in July. The race was sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Curtis is a breast cancer survivor. Kenneth Fugelsang (Viticulture and Enology) was awarded the Outstanding Research/Scholarly Activity Award for excellence in research by the California Agricultural Technology Institute. presented “Aristotle’s ‘Money’ and ‘Exchange’” at
the annual meeting of the History of Economics Society at Duke University,
North Carolina on Frederick Ringwald (Physics) has been awarded eight orbits of telescope time -- about 12 hours -- on the Hubble Space Telescope to study exotic magnetic stars. The project, Ringwald's third on Hubble, has also used the Keck I telescope in Hawaii, the largest in the world, and Fresno State's own Campus Observatory, behind the Downing Planetarium. |

Library Don Blakeley (Philosophy) spoke on “More to the Story? The Wonders of Individuality and Self-identity in Plotinus,” at the Conference of the International Society of Neoplatonic Studies in New Orleans, June 5-8. more Carol Fry Bohlin (Curriculum and Instruction) was selected to serve as editor/writer of a new monthly column, "Assessment Issues," by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics earlier this year and has had three articles published this summer. The column is available online. Rajee Amarasinghe (Mathematics) and Carol Fry Bohlin (Curriculum and Instruction) presented a paper, "A Comprehensive Electronic Resource Center for Mathematics Educators in California" at the ED-MEDIA Conference in Oahu, Hawaii, in June. The paper was selected for inclusion in the conference proceedings. The Jan and Bud Richter Awards for Excellence in Education awarded were presented at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development graduation convocation in May were presented to Carol Fry Bohlin (faculty recipient), Agnes Tuska (non-Kremen faculty recipient) and Manuel Serrano (staff recipient). The recipients received a crystal clock and a cash award.
