Donor Honors Former Bulldog Coaches

An anonymous donor established a $10,000 scholarship endowment in honor of three, former Fresno State Coaches, Gene "Red" Estes, Ara Hairabedian and Birger L. Johnson. Recognizing that these coaches consistently promoted academic excellence as well as athletics, the Estes, Hairabedian and Johnson Scholarship will benefit an honors student.

Fresno State President John D. Welty and Athletic Director Scott Johnson presented a plaque (sponsored by the same donor) which reads: “This tribute has been offered in honor of Professors Gene “Red” Estes, Ara Hairabedian and Birger L. Johnson whose distinguished careers in physical education have brought forth the finest qualities in both performance and attitude from student-athletes committed to their charge.”

The Estes, Hairbedian and Johnson Scholarship is open to additional contributions from friends or former students of the three coaches. Contributions may be sent to: Scholarship Office, MS JA 64.
