Dr. Peter Kivisto will speak on "New Immigrants and the Politics of Incorporation" on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in IT 101.

Kivisto is Richard Swanson Professor of Social Thought and Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. He is the author or editor of 18 books and numerous articles.

His lecture will look at the ways that new immigrants to the U.S. are incorporated into its social, cultural and political fabric. Kivisto will compare the experiences of contemporary immigrants to those of the early 20th century, as well as offer a comparison with immigrants in other advanced industrialized nations.

Kivisto's lecture is sponsored by the Sociology Club, Associated Students and the Department of Sociology. It is free to the public.
