Dinner Oct. 20 honors Judge Coyle

Judge Robert Coyle tours the new federal court building in downtown Fresno that will be named for him.

United States District Court Judge Robert E. Coyle will be honored on Monday, Oct. 20 by his alma mater, Fresno State, where he once served as student body president.

A dinner for the 1953 gradate of then-Fresno State College will benefit an endowed scholarship for Fresno State pre-law students that is being established to encourage young people to pursue careers in law.

"At every stage of his career, Judge Coyle has made significant contributions to the legal profession, the judiciary and our community," said Fresno State President John D. Welty.  "We invite the public to join us recognizing one of our most distinguished Golden Grads."

The Oct. 20 event in the Satellite Student Union (2485 E. San Ramon) begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a program at 7:30 p.m.

Ticket donations are $100 per person or $1,000 for a table of 10.

The Senior District Judge was appointed to the United States District Court, Eastern District of California in 1982. After Fresno State, he graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1956.

Advance reservations only will be taken with the reservation deadline Monday,  Oct. 13. For information, contact Jeanette Ishii (559) 278-6490 or jishii@csufresno.edu .
