Brad Huff, head of University High School at Fresno State, said four
UHS seniors have been designated National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.
They are Melissa Cabral, John Dawson, Peter Guekguezian and Stephen
Ho. Five other UHS students have been honored as National Merit Commended
Scholars: Geoffrey (Chip) Gross, Laura Radinoff, David Rapp, Sukhmani
Singh and Peter (Doug) Witt. more
Fresno State Army ROTC conducted its annual Field Training Exercise
at the scenic Fort Hunter Liggett on Oct. 3-5. Approximately 120 Army
and Air Force cadets participated in various training events, including
rappelling, confidence/obstacle courses, rifle marksmanship, land navigation
course (orienteering) and an outdoor team-paintball competition. Cadets
also flew in a military rotary-wing aircraft. more

Dr. Peter N. Smits, vice president for University Advancement, celebrates
with Time Out after his second consecutive win in the mini-bike race
to kick off Homecoming Week activities. Speedy Smits beat President
Welty down the track in front of the Kennel Bookstore.
CSECC Charitable Campaign
The California State Employees Charitable Campaign (CSECC) is under
way and will continue through Nov. 14, 2003. The CSECC is held each
year to provide all State of California employees an opportunity to
give to charitable and the not-for-profit organizations that provide
a helping hand to those in need. more
