Lunafest raises $2,000More than $2,000 was raised on Oct. 28 at Lunafest 2003 to benefit The Breast Cancer Fund and Fresno State's Women's Resource Center . Lunafest is a national festival of films by, for and about women. The festival, now in its third year, was presented at over 30 venues throughout the United States, from California to Florida to D.C. This was the first year the festival has come to Fresno. Fresno Bee reporter Donald Munro who reviewed the six short films that won the competition wrote that the screening represented "much more than a single-issue evening." He also said that it was "a strong lineup.with some fine examples of work from emerging women filmmakers." The films embodied wide range of topics such as women's health, sexuality, spirituality, cultural diversity and body image Nearly 300 people attended the event coordinated by the Women's Resource Center staff, students and volunteers. Carla Jo Daikin, a retired judge and breast cancer patient, was the community volunteer who presented this idea to the WRC staff and worked tirelessly toward its success. The Breast Cancer Fund ( www.breastcancerfund.org/ ) identifies and advocates for the elimination of the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease. Luna bars are a product of Clif Bar Inc. an active sponsor of The Breast Cancer Fund. The corporation is committed to running a "business with heart" and is passionate about giving back to the community ( www.lunabar.com/lunafest/ ) . Plans for next year's film festival are already under way.
