President named to panel

President Welty and Koua Cha, a senior at Fresno State , are among 40 area residents named to a Blue Ribbon Panel to work on bringing a University of California medical school to Fresno .

Assembly Member Sarah Reyes, D-Fresno, announced the panel members at a press conference held on the Fresno State campus last month.

"The panel was developed to send a message to U.C. officials that Fresno is a viable and suitable location for the next U.C. Medical School ," said Reyes. "There has been an overwhelming amount of support for this panel and for a new medical school from everyone in the community."

The panel is made up of 40 members representing medicine, business, education, health advocacy and the public.

Cha, 21, is a biology major with an option in molecular, cellular and developmental biology.
