Blue Cross honors Krenz

Dr. Vickie Krenz, a professor and researcher in the Health Science Department has been honored by Blue Cross of California's State Sponsored Programs.

Krenz's work on diverse public health issues prompted the organization to recognize her with a Community Service Award. Dan Shydler, regional director of the Central Valley chapter, presented the award at a recent dinner.

Krenz has been an active member of the campus community since her arrival in 1990. In addition to her teaching and research, she is graduate coordinator for the health promotion option and a member of the Academic Senate.

She has worked with diverse groups on public health issues including access to services, tobacco prevention, nutrition, teen pregnancy prevention, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, agricultural pesticides, asthma and barriers to cervical cancer screening among Latinas.

Krenz is also well-known and respected for her work among the Hmong, migrant and seasonal farm workers and Native Americans in the Central Valley .

She has researched topics ranging from tobacco prevention evaluation, to rural health issues and smoking prevalence and practices among the Hmong.

Krenz also works with numerous organizations and serves on several committees to help improve the health and well being of Fresno County residents.
