Ephraim K. Smith's (History) documentary film project "Power for the Parkinsons: The Film and the Family that Helped Electrify the American Farm," was the subject of a feature article in the November newsmagazine European Foundation Joris Ivens. Ivens, a Dutch filmmaker, was hired by the United State Film Service in 1939 to produce a film showing the advantages of bringing electrical power to American farms. Smith documents that effort in his film, which drew the attention of the Ivens Foundation.

Lillian Faderman's (English) book "Naked in the Promised Land: A Memoir" (Houghton Mifflin) was among the San Francisco Chronicle Book Review's selections of the best books of 2003.

Candace Lee Egan (AIC-Technology Training) received two Communicator Awards for 2003 in international competition recognizing companies and individuals in print, television and radio. Her "Video Production Basics" Web site , which is used in her Mass Communications and Journalism video class and the multimedia program, received the highest award, a Crystal Award of Excellence. The Summer Arts Documentary, "Behind the Scenes of Seeing Sara," received an Award of Distinction.

Sudarshan Kapoor (Social Work Education) was honored as a "Community Activist" at the Fresno Metro Ministry's 33 rd anniversary dinner and program on Dec. 4.

Luis Comabella (Foreign Languages and Literatures) served on the Fulbright-Hays Teaching Assistantship National Screening Committee at the Institute of International Education in San Francisco on Dec.10.  The committee reviewed applications of American undergraduate and graduate university students wishing to pursue study, research and professional training, sponsored by the United States Department of State and other foreign governments, universities, and private donors, in Spain and Turkey during the 2004-2005 school year.

Isabel Kaprielian (History) published "Keghi Village Educational Associations and their Impact on the Native District before 1915" in Armenian Karin/Erzerum, edited by Richard G. Hovannisian.  Dr. Kaprielian was an historical consultant for Atom Egoyan's prize-winning film, "Ararat."
