International Opportunities

Each year, Fresno State faculty are invited to apply to teach abroad for a semester or summer session in a program offered by USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium).  USAC offers faculty the chance to teach at several of their study-abroad locations as Visiting Professors.

Applications are now being sought for the academic year 2005-06 and for summer 2005.

Full-time professors in good standing who will return to teach at Fresno State after the term teaching overseas, and who have Chair and Dean approval, are eligible to apply. During the academic year, visiting professors continue to receive their regular salary and benefits from Fresno State for the semester they teach abroad with USAC.  Partial replacement costs are offered to the department in the amount of $7,000.  Summer teaching arrangements are handled differently.

Faculty propose the courses they want to teach - two classes for a semester or one class for a summer session.  Faculty can teach in English or in the relevant foreign language.

Locations include:  Chile , China , Costa Rica , Czech Republic , England , France , Germany , Ghana , Italy and Spain.

Fresno State professors who have taught on the USAC programs in the past are available to share their experiences.  Feel free to contact Jeri Echeverria (History-Provost's Office/Spain), June Gill (Foreign Languages/France), Beth Hartung (Sociology/Spain) or Jim Cypher (Economics/Chile).

For application details and forms, please contact the International Programs Office at Fresno State by phone (8-6452) or e-mail lhammar@csufresno.edu.

The application deadline is March 1, 2004.
