Ex-Bulldog Amanda Scott signs pro softball contract

Former Fresno State softball standout Amanda Scott of Clovis has officially joined the women's softball professional ranks as she has signed on to play for the New York/New Jersey Juggernaut of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league.

Scott will wear the same jersey number (#36) as she did when she helped lead Fresno State to its first national title as well as First Team All-America honors all four years as pitcher/outfielder for the Bulldogs.

At Fresno State , Scott's college resume was off the charts as the NCAA Top VIII Award winner was the No. 1 pick in the 2000 Women's Pro Softball League draft.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award winner and two-time Academic All-America recipient was the 1998 NCAA Women's College World Series Most Valuable Player.

The two-time NCAA ERA statistical champion ranked all 36 weeks in the NCAA stats for pitching and/or hitting during her four-year career.  The 2000 USA Softball Olympic Team alternate also picked up three Western Athletic Conference titles as well as conference tournament crown.

Twice selected as the WAC's and Fresno State 's top female athlete of the year, Scott helped Fresno State to a 226-49 overall record with three NCAA WCWS appearances (all top five finishes).

Individually, she posted a 106-18 (.855) career mark with 68 shutouts, 10 saves and 851 strikeouts in 871.0 innings for an ERA of 0.55.  The holder of five school records and six WAC career marks in pitching/hitting, Scott ranks in three Top 10 NCAA all-time career pitching records.

Honored as one of the Top 25 Fresno State and Central Valley 's Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century, she currently is an assistant coach at Michigan State , where she works with the Spartan pitchers.

As the most decorated student-athlete to ever suit up in a Bulldog uniform, Scott made an indelible mark on the college ranks and will look to do so on the professional scene when the season starts June 1.

Fans won't be able get their first glimpse of the Scott's playing close to home until August when the Juggernaut are at Sacramento , Aug. 2-3, for a three-game series.

The Juggernaut are one of eight teams in the NPF that will play a 56-game regular-season schedule.  Each team will play 36 division games and 20 interleague contests.  There will be two four-team divisions with the top two teams advancing to the NPF Finals in mid August.
