Faculty lead summer travel study programs

Students can earn academic credit while studying in another country thanks to several short-term travel study programs offered this summer through the Division of Continuing and Global Education. Faculty who are leading programs this summer include:

Ruth Masters and Les Pincu (Criminology) are offering "Administration of Justice and Culture in Dublin , Ireland " from May 24-31. The two professors visit a different country every year to explore the criminal justice systems there and they recently returned from a similar program in Guatemala City.

James Kus (Geography) is offering " Peru : Archaeology and Special Education" from June 7-21. He has spent more than six years in Peru where he has directed several archaeology projects.

Cosme Zaragoza (Foreign Languages) is directing "Summer Study in Guanajuato," a four-week program in cooperation with Universidad de Guanajuato. The program begins June 20 and offers six units of academic credit in Spanish.

Richard Berrett (Child and Family Sciences) has scheduled "Experience South Africa " for July 19-Aug. 9. This program includes a service-learning placement related to each student's area of interest and partial scholarships are available.

Also offered this summer is a cooperative program with The American College of Thessaloniki , which will focus on modern Greek language and culture. "Summer Study in Greece " is scheduled for July 3-31 and partial scholarships are available.

In addition, Dr. Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi (Africana and American Indian Studies) escorted a group of students to Egypt during the 2003-04 winter break to explore "African Civilization Revisited."
