Adams, Tannebaum, Moreman, Scott
Several faculty and graduate
students from the Department of Communication traveled to Albuquerque,
N.M., for the Western States Communication Association's 75th annual convention.
Kathy Adams was
given an award for her service as WSCA's first vice president; president-elect;
president, and immediate past president these last four years. She
also was a panel respondent for "Widening the Circle of GLBT Cultural
Research: 'Coming Out' and Negotiating the Personal, Relational, Pop cultural,
and Legal Issues Affecting the Queer
Citizen in U.S. Society."
Sally Tannenbaum was the key facilitator
for the panel "Learning Beyond the Traditional Mode in the K-12 Classroom"
and presented a paper "Best Practices in Service Learning: Ten Essential
Ingredients" on a second panel.
Shane Moreman presented two
papers: "Sighs of the South of the Border Phenomenon: Latino Ontological
Awareness through a Case Study of Paulino Rubio, Border Girl," and
"Performativity and the Queer Pedagological Performance: The Classroom
Politics of Producing the Queer Subject as Self, as Teacher."
Scott Moore served as the program planner for the Health Communication
Interest Group for the conference. In addition, he co-facilitated
the "Spotlight on Scholarship: Everett M. Rogers"
panel and chaired Health Communication's "Top Three Competitive paper" panel.
