Staff Assembly luncheon
The Fresno State Staff Assembly took employees on a dancin’ fool ride into the past with “Disco Fever”-- the theme of its 38th Annual Staff Awards Luncheon on March 29 in the Satellite Student Union. Complete with a gang right out of Village People, Victor “John Travolta” Olivares had the staffers doing the “YMCA” in their seats as more than 193 employees were honored for their 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 year anniversaries. Also honored were 31 employees who are retiring in the 2003-04 academic year. This year’s retireees are Cynthia L. Banuelos , Eileen E. Coleman, Jo Ann Collins, Dolores J. Crisp, Connie D. Cruz, Vicki L. DeLeon, Betty J. Eledge, Vicki M. Fisher, Linda S. Gandolfo, Frank R. Gibson, Patricia A. Hamilton, Lolita G. Harbit, Marian J. Haupt, Diane K. Hazeltine, Patrick J. Hicks, Steven L. Jarvis, Flokatherine Jones, Yolanda T. Lara, Debra E. Marzette, M. Anita Mireles, Geraldine R. Morales, Adrianne Y. Ortega, Cynthia L. Osborne, James R. Parry, Silvia Racki, Linda L. Stephens, Rosemarie Stock, Jerry Tarkanian, Leon A. Valley, Stella J. Washington and Janet K. Simon. Honored for their 35 th anniversary with the university were employees Barbara L. Benedict , Ethel G. Clark, Frederick H. Clausen, Charlene M. Deaver, Carol B. Munshower and Shirley A. Orr. (See a listing of all names of the honored employees at the Staff Assembly Web site). At the luncheon, theme contests were held with the President’s Office taking first place. President Welty's staff declared its table “John's Disco and the Disco Chicks” and dressed as the YMCA Village People. Each person at the table won a CD of Disco, Disco Ball pen, Neon tablet, coffee cup, Starbucks gift certificate and a candle. Second prize was awardee to the International Students Services Program and third place to the Foundation Office. All the remaining undecorated tables were decorated with a disco ball, mirrors and jewels, and a disco ball necklace for a napkin ring on each set of silverware, said Penny Sweazy of Accounts Payable, who coordinated the Staff Assembly’s Table Decorating Contest and prizes.
