Negotiating workshop is April 16
Margaret A. NealeStanford University professor Margaret A. Neale will present a workshop on "Negotiating Strategies and Tactics: How to Get (More of) What you Want" from 1-5 p.m. April 16 at the University Business Center , room 194. The workshop is sponsored by the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The fee is $250 and reservations may be made with Genelle Taylor at 294-2045. more

Great Valley conference
Registration is under way for California 's largest annual meeting focused solely on issues affecting the Central Valley . " Central Valley -- Put it on the Map!" is the theme of the Great Valley Center 's annual conference, which will be held May 5-6 at the Radisson Hotel, 500 Leisure Lane in Sacramento . Fresno State is one of the conference partners. more

Engineering golf tourney
The 3rd Annual Engineering Alumni Chapter Golf Tournament to benefit the Rick Husband Memorial Alumni Scholarship Fund will be held April 16 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Riverside Golf Course. Cost is $85 per person or $340 for a foursome, which includes green fees, cart,

Fresno Grand Opera
Joseph BascettaInternationally acclaimed stage director Joseph Bascetta will speak about the Fresno Grand Opera at the April 16 Friends of the Madden Library program. Bascetta will discuss the founding of the opera company and the final preparations currently being made for Aida, the second production of its 2003-04 season. more

Lecture on Nile
Archaeologist Dr. Brian Fagan, Professor Emeritus of UC Santa Barbara, will speak on “The Rape of the Nile ” on Monday, May 3, in UC 200 at 7:15 p.m.   The lecture is being sponsored jointly by the Fresno County Archaeological Institute/San Joaquin Chapter of the Archaeological Society of America, the Central Sierra Historical Society, the Fresno State College of Social Sciences and the Fresno State Anthropology Club and Geography Club. Sausages win 'Best In West' honors
Three Fresno State student-produced sausages -- Spicy Italian Sausage, Smoked Lamb Sausage and the Crazy Cajun Sausage -- are the best in the west as judged at the California Association of Meat Processors Student Competition held March 5-7 in Fremont . The sausages, like all student-produced agricultural products, may be purchased at the Farm Market located at Chestnut and Barstow avenues. For hours, call 8-4511. more

Turf Day Golf Classic
The 33rd Annual Turf Day Golf Classic sponsored by Ag One Foundation will be held Friday, May 7 at Madera Golf and Country Club. Registration and lunch will be at noon , with shotgun start at 1 p.m. A social will be held at 6 and dinner at 7. Cost is $125 per player, which includes green fee, cart, tee-prize, Fresno State sausage lunch, refreshments on the course, hors d'oeuvres and dinner. Wizard of Oz party
The second annual Secret Garden Party sponsored by The Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children's Literature will be held Sunday, May 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. For the event, the garden of a Fresno residence will be temporarily transformed into the Land of Oz. The party location is a secret that will be revealed shortly before participants' trip to "Oz." more

Invention workshop May 1
The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is sponsoring an "Invention to Venture" workshop on Saturday, May 1 in McLane Hall, room 121. Invention to Venture is a one-day session on technology-driven entrepreneurship for students, faculty, regional entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders. more

Craig Fellowships
The Division of Graduate Studies once again is offering the Robert and Norma Craig (RNC) Fellowships. The RNC Fellowships of $1,000 (based on 100 hours at $10 and hour), are designed to provide benefits to both graduate students and faculty. Fellowship stipends must be used to foster student development through mentored activities such as providing research or instructional assistance, or by conducting some faculty-assigned duties, thus freeing faculty members to proceed with the development of research, instruction or other professional activities. more

Graduate Scholars Fellowship
Contingent upon the availability of funds, nominations are being sought for two President's Graduate Scholars Fellowships. These $3,500 fellowships are available to entering master's degree or Ed.D. students for 2004-05. In previous years, funding has been made available through President Welty. more

Graduate Equity Fellowship
Contingent upon the availability of funds, the California Graduate Equity Fellowships with grants up to $4,500 are available for underrepresented graduate students who qualify. This program seeks to increase the diversity of students completing a graduate degree program at California State University , Fresno and encourages continuation on to doctoral programs and consideration of university faculty careers. more

The Center for Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Dissemination (CREAD) was founded in 1999 to provide research, data analysis and evaluation services to school districts, postsecondary institutions, private foundations, grant projects, and other agencies requiring professional services. more

Brown Bag Book Club
Nora Chapman In celebration of Fresno State 's new recommended reading list, the Madden Library sponsors University Brown Bag Book Club Discussions. Professors from all disciplines take turns facilitating discussion. Students, faculty and Friends of the Madden Library are invited to bring their lunches and participate. The final discussion of the semester will be April 20 at 1 p.m. in Library Conference Room 1209. Nora Chapman (Department of Foreign Languages and Literature) will discuss "The Illiad" by Homer.

Fraley to speak
Bob FraleyDirector of Track and Field Bob Fraley will be the speaker at the annual Faculty/Staff Christian Fellowship Spring Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 in the Residence Dining Facility. Fraley was named USA Track & Field's 2003 Nike Coach of the Year. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased by April 9. For information or tickets contact Martha Rodriguez at 8-7755.

Cognitive Science Series
The Cognitive Science Series is offering four lectures in the month of April as part of the new cognitive science course. LouAnn Gerken , director of the Cognitive Science Program at the University of Arizona Tucson , will speak on "The Language Gene Goes to Las Vegas ". more

Gerontology Symposium
MoodyKey issues relating to gerontology will be addressed at the third annual Gerontology Symposium on Monday, April 19. Dr. Harry Moody, an expert in gerontology, will lecture on "Dreams and Fairy Tales for the Second Half of Life," from 10 a.m. to noon in the Smittcamp Alumni House. more

'Culture and Depression'
Dr. Arthur M. Kleinman , a psychiatrist who is an expert on depression, spoke on "Culture and Depression: Studies in Anthropology and Cross-Cultural Psychiatry of Affect and Disorder" on April 1. His appearance was sponsored by the College of Social Sciences and the Department of Anthropology. more

Health Fair
Health Fair 2004 will be held in the Residence Dining Facility on Wednesday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year's event will have more than 25 booths on health-related topics. In addition to many returning favorites, new booths will address "Alcohol IQ", Fad Diets and Alternative Health. To demonstrate the risks of impaired driving, University Police will offer the opportunity to drive a motorized cart wearing "Fatal Vision" goggles, simulating intoxication. The Kinesiology Pedagogy Club will sponsor a 1- 2- and 3- mile fitness event. more

Service for Gina Arce
Dr. Gina Arce, who served as a Fresno State Professor of Botany for 40 years (1956-1996), passed away January 30, 2004 in York , Penn., after a long illness.  Although her last years were spent in the East with the niece she raised, her heart and spirit remained tied to the Central Valley , especially to the triumphs of the sports teams and former sports stars of Fresno State. more

All units on the campus are expected to comply with the policy and have all appropriate approvals consistent with the policy.
