Torch of Excellence

The eighth annual Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Dinner will be held Monday, April 26, to honor Fresno State student-athletes who have achieved a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA for spring and fall 2003, or have maintained a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA for their academic career.

Ticket reservation deadline is April 7.

This year 267 student-athletes will be honored. They represent 51 percent of the 524 active student-athletes.   Seventy equestrians and 33football players will be among those honored.

A record 14 seniors completing their athletic eligibility this year have maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA and lettered two of the past three years.   They will be honored as “ Torchlighters” for their outstanding academic achievement.

The dinner is sponsored by the Fresno-Madera Kiwanis Clubs of District 7, who formerly sponsored the Cal-Bowl and Raisin Bowl team luncheons. It will be held at the Radisson Hotel Convention Center ballroom in downtown Fresno, beginning with a reception at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30 pm.

Tickets are available for $35 each.   A sponsorship of $300 purchases a table of 10, where the sponsor would bring six guests and have four student-athletes also seated at the table. Larger sponsorships also are available. Reservations should be made by April 7. Tickets maybe purchased by calling Keith Kraemer 291-2947.
