Bilingual poetry readingRenowned Polish poet Jozef Baran will be reading from his work Tuesday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Peters Building, room 390. Baran will read in Polish and the English translations by Ewa Hryniewicz-Yarbrough will be read by Steve Yarbrough. The reading is free and open to the public. Baran has published more than 20 books, including poetry, essays and interviews. His poems are widely anthologized and have been published in several textbooks. Baran has received several awards and accolades for his literary work in Poland. Baran was born in 1947 in Borzecin, a village not far away from Krakow. He was a coal miner and a teacher, and for the last 25 years has worked for a Krakow newspaper as a journalist. Baranís poems have been translated into German, Hebrew, Russian, Czech and several other languages. A bilingual edition of his poems ìIn a Flashî has been published by Cross-Cultural Communications in New York. Recently one of his poems has appeared in the on-line issue of Agni.
