"And the Shadows Took Him"
Daniel Chacon
The Masters of Fine Arts program in Creative writing at California
State University , Fresno will host nationally recognized author Daniel
Chacon for a reading on Friday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in University Center
, room 200.
Chacon's latest book, released in April, is titled "And the Shadows
Took Him." It depicts a Mexican-American family's pursuit of the American
dream.
Chacon teaches in the Bilingual MFA Program at University of Texas
at El Paso .
In 2000, Chacon released a book containing a series of short stories
titled "Chicano Chicanery." He also has been published in several journals
including ZYZZYVA, Americas Review, Bilingual Review, Colorado Review,
New England Review and Callaloo. Chacon also has written
several plays that have been performed in both California and Oregon.
Chacon received his bachelor's degree and Masters of Fine Arts degree
from Fresno State . While a student he was a founding memberof CWAA
(Chicano Writers and Artists Association), a still-flourishing organization
on campus that publishes an annual journal (Flies Cockroaches and Poets)
and hosts readings, conferences and other events.
