Recognition Ceremony May 12Carol Whiteside, president and Founder of the Great Valley Center and former mayor of Modesto , will be the keynote speaker at the fourth annual Recognition Ceremony and Spirit of Community Awards celebrating American Humanics, Kauffman and Radin Scholars. It will be Wednesday, May 12, at the University Business Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event honors the Fresno State students graduating with the American Humanics Certificate, the Kauffman Social Entrepreneur Program interns and participants in the Radin Community Service Scholarship Program. The three independent programs collaborate to provide students with the knowledge and skill competencies and the applied experiences that will allow them to be effective leaders in our communities. The American Humanics (AH) Program offers a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. In addition to required coursework, students complete 300 hours of supervised experience with a nonprofit organization. The Kauffman Social Entrepreneur and Radin Community Service Scholarship programs partially fulfill this latter requirement by identifying innovative nonprofit sites where specially selected students can intern for 200 hours or 150 hours respectively, over the course of an academic year. These university programs have partnered with local nonprofit organizations in such a way to enhance the local agency while serving to develop the skills of each student. Debbie Young, Paul DeRuosi and Matthew Jendian, the program coordinators of these three programs, invite the university, nonprofit, public and for-profit communities to see the displays of the various projects undertaken this past year, to network in discussion of future partnerships, and to honor the students and their mentors.
