Keyboard Concert seriesSergei Babayan will be the first featured artist of the year to play in the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concert series on Friday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. The performance will be in the Concert Hall located in the Music building. Babayan is known for his breathtaking virtuosity and a wide-ranging tonal palette is the winner of the 1989 Robert Casadesus International Competition in Cleveland. He will perform works by Leighton, J.S. Bach and Liszt. Andreas Haefliger will be the featured artist on Nov. 3 at 8 p.m., in the first of a two-part concert series. The Boston Globe said Haefliger “is a pianist of elegance, refinement and taste.” Haefliger will perform again on Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. Natacha Paremski will perform on Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. Paremski is a 17-year-old student at the Mannes School of Music in New York City and has performed at numerous venues across the United States and Europe. The San Francisco Classical Voice said she performed with “technique to burn and a real feeling for lush romantic music.” Arnaldo Cohen will appear on Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. Cohn has received several awards and is back in the series by popular demand. Cohn has performed with such acclaimed conductors as Kurt Masur, Klaus Tennstedt, Kurt Sanderling and Yehudi Menuhin. Louis Lortie will perform on March 16 at 8 p.m. Lortie has been praised for his fresh perspective and individuality. The Daily Telegraph, based in London, said Lortie is “one of half a dozen pianists who is worth dropping everything to go and hear.” Christopher Young will perform April 10 at 3 p.m. Young is one of the leading organists of his generation. He has won numerous awards and according to The New York Times Young is “a distinguished interpreter with a commanding technique, sense of drive and attention to detail.” Elena Bashkirova will perform May 6 at 8 p.m. Bashkirova is one of today’s most distinguished chamber music players. “She is one of the most sensitive and charismatic personalities in the exclusive league of women pianists,” said Die Welt of Germany. All concerts will be held in the Concert Hall in the East Music Building. Parking is free in Lot C. Tickets can be purchased in the Music Department office Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Season tickets are $80 for general admission, $50 for seniors, and $30 for students. Individual tickets are $12.50 for general admission, $7 for seniors, and $5 for students. |
