Graduate programs planning to propose curriculum/catalog changes need to submit the required forms to the Division of Graduate Studies by Sept. 28. Individuals responsible for filing the paperwork are encouraged to attend the workshop on curriculum change (see next announcement). Graduate forms are available on Informed Filer®. Wendy Chelossi has joined Auxiliary Services as assistant controller. She replaces Randy Larson, director of Foundation Financial Services, who has accepted a position as director of Advancement Operations in the Division of University Advancement. more

The university and the Mosquito Abatement District are working together to prevent mosquito proliferation on campus. more
Dickerson heads ULS

Career job fair
Career Services will sponsor a Career Job Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 6,
on the balcony of the University Student Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
More than 50 organizations will be available to discuss general
career information including internships and full-time opportunities.
Dr. Bilderback remembered
A celebration of the life of Dr. Dean Loy Bilderback, professor emeritus of history, was held on Aug. 20 in the Madden Library. more
Abhold named interim budget officer
Provost Jeri Echeverria has named Dr. Ray Abhold as interim Budget Officer for Academic Affairs on a half-time basis for 2004-05. more
New development directors named
Two new directors for development joined the Division of University Advancement staff over the summer.
Gregory J. Walaitis was named associate athletic director for development and Jesse R. Arreguin was named director of development for two colleges – the College of Social Sciences and the College of Arts and Humanities. more
Dr. Benjamin Cueller, left, dean of College of Health and
Human Services, receives a $60,000 check from Corwin N. Harper, Medical
Group Administrator/director of Hospital Operations at Kaiser Permanente
in Fresno for the university's new Nursing STAT partnership. The partnership
between Fresno State and four local hospital groups will allow the College
of Health and Human Services to train more nurses to meet the critical
shortages in the Valley. The hospitals will provide a total of $720,000
over three years.
Alum named Web manager
Enoch Gamoian, a Fresno State alumnus who was previously West Coast Web manager for Granite Broadcasting, was named campus Web manager in June. more

Curriculum Change
Workshop
The Undergraduate Curriculum Subcommittee and the Graduate Curriculum
Subcommittee of the Academic Senate, in cooperation with CETL, will
be offering a workshop on course and curriculum change procedures.
Faculty serving on the academic senate committees will be available
during the workshop to assist you with your proposals and paperwork.
The workshop will be held on Sept. 3, 2:00-3:30 p.m. in UC, room 202.

Graduate Advising Workshops
All graduate coordinators/directors, graduate
faculty and staff who work with graduate students are encouraged to
attend these workshops. Three separate workshops will be presented
by the Division of Graduate Studies staff who will update you on policies
and procedures relative to admissions, classified standing and advancement
to candidacy, and culminating experiences, etc. more

Craig Fellowships
The Division of Graduate Studies is pleased
to offer once again the Robert and Norma Craig (RNC) Fellowships.
The RNC Fellowships $1000 (based on 100 hours @ $10/hr.), are designed
to provide benefits to both graduate students and faculty. more
Lowry is visiting writer
Beverly
Lowry, the author of “Her Dream of Dreams: The Rise and Triumph of Madam
C. J. Walker” and “Crossed Over,” a nonfiction memoir about the murder
committed by Karla Faye Tucker in Texas, will serve as the distinguished
visiting writer in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program
for the fall semester. more
Outside speakers policy
On Nov. 18, 2003, President Welty approved the Outside
Speakers Policy (APM 625).
All units on the campus are expected to comply with the policy and have
all appropriate approvals consistent with the policy. Please review
the policy and make sure that your unit(s) are following the policy
consistently.
Ag Boosters
The Ag Boosters 27 th Annual Barbecue will be held Sunday, Sept.
12, at the Dennes Coombs' Riverbend Ranch in Madera. Grounds open at
4 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. more
Benefits Fair
The university's annual Benefits Fair will be held on Wednesday, Sept.
8, with representatives from our health, dental and vision insurance
carriers on hand to provide information. The Benefits Fair will take
place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. in the Satellite
Student Union. more

A program offered through the Division of Continuing and Global Education
is training future community college instructors with strategies and
techniques that foster effective learning among a diverse group of students.
