Variety of new grants receivedThe University Grants and Research Office announced the following new grants received during the spring and summer months: Four grants awards received April 26-May 3, totaling $570,435:
Title: Chaffee ZooAgency: City of Fresno Project director: Bob Hill Amount of Award: $30,000 Purpose: To determine Fresno area residents' attitudes toward the Chaffee Zoo and design an operating model for the Zoo. College/School: Craig School of Business/MBA Programs Office
Title: Central Valley Higher Education Consortium (Yr 1 of 2)Agency: The James Irvine Foundation Project director: Allen Carden Amount of Award: $181,367 Purpose: To build and nurture a college-going culture in which a higher percentage of Valley residents obtain associate's and bachelor's degrees. Title: Central Valley California Student Opportunity & Access Program(CAL-SOAP) Agency: California Student Aid Commission Project director: Daisy Dalrymple/Frances Pena Amount of Award: $370,000 Purpose: To increase the accessibility of postsecondary educational opportunities to low income elementary and secondary school students, to provide information about and assistance with postsecondary financial aid programs, and to assist community college students in transferring to four-year institutions through the California Student Opportunity & Access Program. Title: Research to Reduce Disparities in Minority Mental Health (Year 3 of 3)Agency: National Institute of Mental Health Project director: Sergio Aguilar- Gaxiola Amount of Award: $331,958 Purpose: To identify barriers and predictors of mental health service utilization for severely mentally ill Mexican-Americans along with examining the course of mental illness and help-seeking patterns in order to obtain a better understanding of disparities in mental health care in this population.
