Kalfayan is interim Craig dean

Garo Kalfayan, a Fresno State faculty member in the accountancy department for more than 17 years, has been named the Sid Craig School of Business’ interim dean for the 2004-05 academic year.

He replaces Dr. Karen Dill Bowerman, who accepted a position as Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at California State University, San Bernardino.

For the last year, Kalfayan has served as interim associate dean of the Craig School. The new appointment was effective July 1.

Kalfayan holds a Master of Law degree in Taxation from the University of Florida, a Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law and a bachelor's degree with an Accounting emphasis from UC Berkeley.

Prior to joining the Craig School, Kalfayan worked in a law firm and in two accounting firms. More recently, his scholarly activities have included articles on "Minimizing social security taxes in spousal businesses" in The CPA Journal, "Using an LLC to maximize the use of losses for income and SECA taxes" in The Tax Advisor, and the fourth edition of a co-authored textbook, Mastering Depreciation.
