Samiian named interim dean

Dr. Vida Samiian

Dr. Vida Samiian, former associate dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, was named interim dean effective July 28 by Provost Jeri Echeverria.

Samiian replaces Dr. Luis Costa, who retired after 14 years as dean of the college.

A linguistics professor, Samiian joined the faculty in 1987.  From fall 1990 through spring 1993 she served as chair of the Department of Linguistics. She has served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Humanities since July 1994.

A native of Tehran, Iran, Samiian attended UCLA for her bacehlor’s degree in psychology and her M.A. and Ph.D. in linguistics.
