Alcohol Awareness Week

National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week will be recognized at Fresno State Oct.   11-15 with several activities around the theme “Fresno State Students Stay Safe When They Party.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 12, comedian Bernie McGrenahan will make his third appearance at Fresno State with his Happy Hour Comedy with a Twist program. He will speak at 7 p.m. in the Save Mart Center. Admission and parking in the north lot are free.

McGrenahan is known not just for his comedy, but also for his message that inspires students to achieve their dreams by dealing with life’s obstacles in a positive way.

His appearance is sponsored by the Department of Athletics.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, University Courtyard Atrium Lobby will be the site of the annual Milk and Cookies night starting at 10 p.m. Activities include a chance to wear the “fatal vision” goggles that simulate intoxication and other educational activities.

Donations of homemade cookies and milk are sought from faculty and staff. Contact Erin Boele, assistant director of housing at 8-8134 or eboele@csufresno.edufor donation information.

On Friday, Oct. 15, Food and Fun will be served up from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in the Free Speech Area. Free hot dogs and drinks, DJ Atodisimo and a visit from Time Out are planned.

Throughout the week University Health and Psychological Services will offer free, voluntary alcohol self-assessments for students (individuals only; no groups) from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:45 p.m. in the University Health Center.

National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week activities are being sponsored and coordinated by the Department of Athletics, Division of Student Affairs, Student Health Science Association, Associated Students, BACCHUS, Alcohol Advisory Council, University Courtyard, Social Norms Project, CSU Sober Driver Initiative, Office of University Communications and Food Services.
