CAMP grant renewed

The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) has been re-funded for another five-year cycle (2004-2009) by the U.S. Department of Education through the Office of Migrant Education.

CAMP was awarded $470,000 per year to serve migrant students from Fresno, Tulare, Monterey and Merced counties. CAMP expands its recruitment areas and also recruits from Kern, Kings, Madera, and Ventura counties. CAMP is a federally funded program designed to help migrant or seasonal farm working students enroll at Fresno State.

Currently, 80 students participate. More than 1,450 have been served since the program began at Fresno State in 1981. Well over 750 CAMP students have graduated from Fresno State with bachelor’s degrees.

CAMP provides outreach, academic and career development, cultural enrichment and leadership development services to first-time freshmen as well as follow-up services to second-year migrant students. CAMP operates under the Division of Student Affairs.
