Race for the CureDavid Arquette will serve as celebrity honorary chair at the 6th annual Susan G. Komen Fresno Race for the Cure on Oct. 23 held on the Fresno State campus. Staff, faculty, students, alumni and family can show their support for this great event by participating as individuals or as teams of 10 or more people. National statistics show that one out of every seven women living past the age of 85 will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. The mission of the Komen Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. Up to 75 percent of race funds and other money raised are awarded to Fresno area non-profit organizations through the program to pay for breast health education, screening, and treatments for those who cannot afford these services. The remaining 25 percent of funds raised go directly to the Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program. Komen’s current grantees include Hinds Hospice, Community Outpatient Rehabilitation Center/Lymphedema Clinic, Cancer Legal Resources Center, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and the California Health Collaborative. For more information visit the Komen web site at www.komen-fresno.org or call 229-4255. Watch for entry forms on campus and for more details to come. |
