‘Far Reaches of Spain’
The Chamber Singers will draw upon music collected from the group’s spring trip to Mexico for a Nov. 5 concert titled “The Far Reaches of Spain.”
The concert, conducted by Dr. Anna Hamre, associate professor of music, begins at 8 p.m. in the Fresno State concert hall. Tickets are available at the door for $8 general; $7 seniors; and $6 students.
Some of the music that will be performed is unpublished and therefore unknown in the United States, said Hamre. The concert will include music by José Antonio Rincón, a popular Mexican composer and conductor who has shared his music with the Fresno State choirs. One of his pieces, “Angelitos negros,” will feature guitarist and faculty member Dr. Corey Whitehead.
Other Mexican and Spanish composers included in the program will be Casals, Ramirez, Victoria and Fernandez.
The concert also will include music by non-Spanish composers, including a piece by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, along with the premiere of a new work by Fresno State student Bob Allaire, who finds inspiration in the style of Pärt.
For more information contact Hamre at 8-2539.
