Communication
Department honored
Fresno State 's Communication Department was honored on Oct. 23 with
a plaque from the City of Fresno Planning and Development Department
as part of the Volunteer Appreciation Day celebrations.
The award honors the students and faculty of the Communication Department
who have participated in multiple service-learning projects that have
improved the Fresno community.
As part of their course curriculum, students in the Communication Department's
group discussion classes (Communication 8) identify specific problems
in the Fresno community and work with area agencies to complete projects
that hopefully mitigate the problems they are studying.
Communication student groups have focused on quality of life and urban
renewal issues and have regularly participated with the Housing and
Community Development Division of the city of Fresno in neighborhood
clean-up activities, tree plantings, and the graffiti removal program.
For more information on the Communication 8 service-learning classes,
contact Dr. Sally Tannenbaum at sallyt@csufresno.edu or 8-5404.
