Marketing Students 'Light the Night'

Team Hope.

The Lite Knights.

A service-learning project in Marketing 100(S) has resulted in a $27,361 donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Forty-six Craig School of Business students chose the Light the Night event on October 16 for their community service assignment in the Marketing Concepts course. The Light the Night Walk is the society's nationwide evening walk to raise awareness of blood cancers and funds for cures.

Each student was responsible for forming a team and then creating and implementing a marketing plan. Garage sales, car washes, balloon sales and soliciting business support were among the strategies used to raise funds.

On the evening of the event the teams carried illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Marketing faculty also participated by helping to inflate more than 1,500 balloons, which were used to light up the night.  Funds raised support the society's mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and imp rove the quality of life of patients and their families.
