Campus recycling

Campus recycling efforts have decreased solid waste generated on campus by more than 50 percent. The following are guidelines for the campus recycling program.

1.   Paper that is to be recycled should be placed in a university provided container that is located at a central location in each building. There may be more than one recycling location in each building and typically these are in or near the departmental copy/mail room.

2.   The recycling locations are serviced once per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) scheduled by building. Please see the Schedule below to find your buildings name and day of the week that material is picked up.  Please remember that the recycler does not have keys and will not be able to access recycling containers that are behind locked doors.

3.   The only other material that can be placed at the designated recycle pick up location are bags of shredded paper. If the office has confidential documents that need to be shredded, please remember that it is the individual offices responsibility to shred the paper. For plastic bags for the shredded paper call 8-2373 and request the delivery of bags for shredded paper and we will deliver them to you.

4.   We accept other materials such as books, cardboard, magazines, and newsprint on an 'as called' basis and material must be sorted by type. Call 8-2373 to request the pick up of these other materials. Typically the materials will be picked up on the next scheduled date for recycling pick-ups for your building.  Place these materials in a box next to or on top of the paper recycling container and then place a sign on them stating 'To Be Recycled'.

5.   Eight locations are available for the pick- up of cardboard: University Center loading dock, Joyal Administration loading dock, Madden Library loading dock, Education building loading dock, Residence Dining Hall loading dock, Shipping and Receiving, Farm Market, Plant Operations warehouse.

Break down any box that you deposit in these bins and remove any plastic bags, Styrofoam, or other packing materials.
