Wang Awards

Dr. Welty has issued a call for campus nominations for the Wang Family Excellence Award. This CSU system-wide award was established in 1998 by the Board of Trustees, Trustee Stanley T. Wang and Chancellor Charles Reed.

Trustee Wang's pledge of a $1 million gift to the California State University is awarded in the amount of $100K each year over ten years.

Each year, four faculty members system-wide will be honored and will receive $20K. The purpose of the award is to recognize and celebrate those CSU faculty who, through extraordinary commitment and dedication, have distinguished themselves by exemplary contributions and achievements in their academic disciplines, and are having a discernable effect on students.

Edward EmanuEl, professor in theatre arts, was Fresno State’s 2000-2001 award recipient for the Visual and Performing Arts and Letters category.

The Wang nominee should be regarded as a "superstar" on their campus, an individual who is making multi-faceted contributions to the learning community; for example, involving students in their research, arranging and supervising student internships, involvement in community service, recruiting students, and publishing.

A successful nominee should go well beyond what is expected for their job responsibilities and performance.

Faculty members nominated for the award must have participated successfully in a campus peer-academic administrative review process; e.g., reappointment, tenure, and promotion, or faculty merit award for teaching, research, or scholarship or grant process no earlier than the 2001-02 academic year.
