Magazine, Journal win awardsFresno State 's University Journal was named a silver medal winner at the annual District VII conference of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), held in December in San Francisco . Also winning a silver award was Fresno State Magazine. Both publications are produced by the University Communications Office. The Journal won in the "e-mail newsletters" category. The magazine was recognized in the "illustrations" category for the cover on the Summer 2004 issue. Headquartered in Washington , D.C. , with an office in London , CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development. District VII includes colleges, universities, and independent elementary and secondary schools in California , Arizona , Nevada , Utah and Hawaii . It was the first time the two publications were entered in the CASE competition. The University Journal was converted from a print publication to a Web-based format in 2003. Published at the first of each month, the Journal keeps faculty and staff abreast of news, events and achievements of the campus and their colleagues. The Summer 2004 issue of Fresno State Magazine used original artwork by Fresno freelance graphic artist Gabriel Utasi for the front cover. Taking a cue from the magazine's profile of alumnus and Emmy Award-winning set designer Roy Christopher, the artist created a "set" under construction of Fresno State , portraying that the university is putting in place all the pieces of campus excellence. The magazine examined and showcased "Portraits of Excellence" on the campus and Utasi provided another illustration for the main story profiling faculty, staff, students and alumni who are examples of the excellence that exists in the university's programs. The twice-yearly magazine was launched in 2003. |
