Telecom project update

Telecom project update

Work on the telecommunication infrastructure project continued through rain and shine in December and into January. The bad weather has slowed the project down to some extent, but the contractor has completed 17 telecom vaults in areas along Barstow, Campus Drive, San Ramon, San Bruno, Keats, Barton, and Maple avenues.

In addition, 3,000 feet of trenches have been dug, and as the trenches are dug the conduit is laid in them and they are being filled again with slurry. Weather permitting, Barstow between Campus Drive and Woodrow, and Campus Drive between San Ramon and Barstow will be completed and open for traffic by the time classes resume on Jan. 19.

Work inside continues in Family Food Science.   Some hazardous material was discovered and the abatement is in progress, which has delayed the completion of FFS. Work has begun in the Kremen Education Building and in some of the agricultural buildings on the farm. Work in the buildings is done at night and should be transparent to the campus population.

The new Science II building has been folded into the project.   Bad weather has affected the entire construction and move-in effort of Science II, but the building will be ready for occupancy when school starts and the telecom services for voice and data will be at least 90 percent complete at that time.
