V-Day

Last year more than 1,100 communities hosted V-Day benefits around the world raising funds and awareness towards ending violence against women. These highly successful events raised over $4 million through performance of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues.” Fresno State will once again join this global movement as part of the V-Day 2005 College Campaign.

Fresno State will present a benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” at the Satellite Student Union on Feb. 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. This benefit production is sponsored by the student organization, V-Day Fresno. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for the general public and may be purchased online at http://www.csufresno.edu/studentorgs/vdayfresno/.

Proceeds from this community event will be donated to local organizations working to eliminate violence against women and children. Past local beneficiaries have included the Marjaree Mason Center, Healing for Survivors, Rape Counseling Service of Fresno, Inc., and Domestic Violence Victim’s Services and Central California Pride Network.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop worldwide violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery.

In its first year of incorporation (2001), V-Day was named one of Worth Magazine's "100 Best Charities." In seven years, the V-Day movement has raised over $25 million.

The College Campaign is a catalyst for mobilizing college communities to heighten awareness about violence against women and girls. By creating this global community, the College Campaign strives to empower women to find their collective voices and demand an end to the epidemic levels of violence and abuse on their campuses and around the world.

V-Day Fresno is a local effort within the worldwide context of V-Day’s 2005 College Campaign.
