University Lecture Series Feb. 23
Fresno State alumnus Dr. James R. Kennedy, associate director of operations at the Gemini Observatory in Hilo, Hawaii, will speak at the University Lecture Series on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union. more

New planetarium programs
The Downing Planetarium is offering two new programs, “Midnight Canvas” and “Ring World” for the spring season. more

CSU rates favorable
An analysis of student access, retention and graduation rates of CSU students shows that overall – and across racial and ethnic groups – the first-year retention rates and the 6-year graduation rates of CSU students exceed those for national benchmarks. more

New database at library
As of January 2005, the Madden Library is providing campus access to CAB Direct, an online database produced by the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau. With over 4 million items dating back to 1973, this database is the world’s premier collection of research in agriculture and related fields. more

Mentoring aids students
Throughout the fall 2004, Fresno State’s Faculty Mentoring Program had approximately 80 student participants.  Each student was assigned a faculty mentor in their area of interest (major). Students were required to be enrolled in University 1 as well as meet three times with their faculty mentor throughout the semester. more

American Humanics recognition
The American Humanics Program at Fresno State stood out at the 33 rd Annual American Humanics Management Institute (AHMI) held in Atlanta, Jan. 5-8. more

Wine at Trader Joe’s
Trader Joe’s, the national chain with outlets in 19 states, is carrying two Fresno State Wines in its two local stores: the gold medal-winning 2002 Syrah and a Special Selection California Chardonnay designed specifically for Trader Joe’s. more

Common Threads Awards

Five women from five Central Valley counties will be recognized as the 2005 honorees for the Common Threads Awards at Fresno State on March 11. more

TII Project update
Work on the telecommunication Infrastructure along Barstow and Campus Drive between Barstow and San Bruno was completed during the winter break. Inclement weather delayed the work’s progress, but with some overtime work over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend the conduit was laid in the open trenches, the telecom pathways were back-filled with slurry and paved over with asphalt, the fences removed and the roads opened for traffic on Jan. 17. more

Lyles Center InForum
New Valley InForum, a series sponsored by the Lyles Center for Entrepreneurship, will bring three innovative speakers to Fresno State this spring to communicate the mosaic of change happening around the nation and in our community. They will discuss how to prepare for success in our schools, government, businesses and region. more

Veritas Forum is Feb. 15-17
Scholars from Yale, Duke and Oxford universities will visit Fresno State Feb. 15-17 to participate in a forum featuring public discussions of the relationships between faith, truth and the pursuit of knowledge. more
