TII Project updateWork on the telecommunication Infrastructure along Barstow and Campus Drive between Barstow and San Bruno was completed during the winter break. Inclement weather delayed the work’s progress, but with some overtime work over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend the conduit was laid in the open trenches, the telecom pathways were back-filled with slurry and paved over with asphalt, the fences removed and the roads opened for traffic on Jan. 17. Thus, TII did not contribute to traffic congestion with the start of spring quarter! Work in the project’s pilot building, Family Food Science (FFS), has been delayed until abatement work for hazardous materials is done. The abatement is scheduled for Feb. 4-7. FFS has presented many challenges for TII. It is an older building that is typical of many other buildings on campus, and that is exactly why it was chosen to be the pilot or first building. The construction work, safety procedures and wiring techniques done in this building are being evaluated and held to a high standard that will become the template for the work to be done in the other buildings on campus. In addition to the bad weather and abatement work, there have been other delays in the project due to a change in project management and a longer than expected period of time to find and hire adequate sub-contractors for the various trades. The project now has a full complement of management and contractors and is poised to forge ahead and to recover lost time. The TII website has been updated to more accurately report the current project schedule: http://tii.csufresno.edu/group/ |
